Rakhmon, speaking after a meeting with Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Shah Mehmood Qureshi, said Tajikistan will not recognize an Afghan government that is not inclusive and represents all its ethnic groups.

“The facts clearly show that the Taliban reneged on their previous promise to form an interim government with broad participation from the other political powers of the country and are preparing to create an Islamic emirate,” Rakhmon said in a statement.
“Tajikistan will not recognize another government that will be established in the country through oppression and without taking into account the position of all Afghans, especially all its ethnic minorities,” he continued, as reported by Reuters on Wednesday (25/8/2021).
Tajikistan itself is one of the countries directly bordering Afghanistan and has several times accommodated government forces fleeing fighting with the Taliban. Also read: Afghan refugees in Qatar complain of urine, human and rat droppings
The Dushanbe have increased their vigilance and combat capabilities since the Taliban began launching sporadic attacks in Afghanistan last month. One of the steps they took was to conduct large-scale military exercises with Russia.
