Tajani, ‘the vote in the European elections must not be influenced by fake news’

(ANSA) – BRUSSELS, 03 APR – “The role of the press, in any sector, is fundamental. Intermediaries are always needed to verify whether a piece of news is false or true. Unfortunately there is more and more fake news, let’s think about those that have been circulated on social media about the attack in Moscow. There are many who try to influence public opinion, and there will be attempts for the European elections too.” This was said by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani speaking at the Forum organized by ANSA in collaboration with the European Chamber, ‘The Europe to come’. “I am in favor of the use of AI but this Parliament has done a good job in giving rules”, added Tajani. “The freedom to choose is fundamental in a democracy, if my choice is conditioned” by fake news “it is obvious that it is my freedom that is conditioned. And the EP has demonstrated several times that it is a guardian of freedom in Europe” he explained the minister reiterating: “at the European elections our vote must not be influenced by false news”.
