The Vice President of the Council and Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Hon. Antonio Tajani, had a telephone conversation with the US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken.
In confirming the primary importance that Italy attributes to the relationship with the United States, Vice President Tajani illustrated the guidelines of the Italian Presidency of the G7 and recalled that freedom of navigation in the Red Sea is a priority for Italy absolute.
In affirming the need to work towards a diplomatic solution in the Middle East, Tajani expressed satisfaction with the adoption of the UN resolution on humanitarian assistance to Gaza last December 22, thanked the USA for its constructive position and reiterated the centrality of cooperation within the United Nations for the resolution of the crisis. “Italy remains committed to avoiding a regionalization of the conflict and to guaranteeing the sending of humanitarian aid to the civilian population of Gaza. We are now following the latest developments in Lebanon and the Red Sea with the utmost attention to prevent other crisis theaters from opening up.”
“The situation in Ukraine, the conflict in the Middle East and artificial intelligence are the priority topics of our G7 presidency,” Tajani added. “I thanked my friend Antony for his support for our agenda, clear proof of how solid the transatlantic bond is” said the Deputy Prime Minister.
“The deep friendship that binds Rome and Washington will allow us to converge together with the other G7 Partners on concrete actions that will benefit everyone”.
Tajani then expressed satisfaction to Secretary of State Blinken for the excellent bilateral coordination within NATO, Quint and the G7 on the formulation of security commitments towards Ukraine. “Rome and Washington work together for a just and lasting peace. Kiev can count on our support. We will also reiterate this together with the G7 partners” – he added.
“The stability, security and prosperity of the Mediterranean and the African continent are central to the agenda of our presidency of the G7” underlined Tajani, recalling the Italian commitment with the launch of the Mattei Plan and the great attention of the Government to the issue of food safety.
“Finally, I confirmed to Secretary of State Blinken that the Italian Presidency of the G7 will look with great attention to the Indo-Pacific, a region experiencing strong growth and in which growing competition is observed” – concluded Vice President Tajani.
