Taiwanese shoe brand uses silicon waste from chip manufacturer TSMC in shoes

Taiwanese shoe brand Ccilu sells shoes made from recycled silicon waste from chip manufacturer TSMC. The brand launched slippers made from silicon waste last year, and now the company has added slippers and sports shoes made from silicon waste.

For the shoes made from silicon waste, Ccilu worked with Semisils Applied Materials, a partner of the Taiwanese chip maker TSMC. CEO Wilson Hsu says that crude oil consumption has been reduced by 0.5 liters per shoe made. Carbon emissions per shoe would also be 1kg lower.

Ccilu previously launched shoes made from other waste materials, such as recycled coffee grounds and a series of shoes made from recycled PET bottles. Furthermore, it collaborated with Warner Bros. to Wonder Woman and Batman themed shoes, and to the PGA Tour for golf shoes made from ocean waste.
