Taiwan finds new cases of infection in the country again after eight months of statelessness

On Dec. 22, officials of the Taiwan Center for Disease Control revealed that COVID-19 was infected. In a new country for the first time in eight months after setting a record for the world’s longest uninfected country. The last infection was April 12.

Taiwan Health Minister Chen Shizhong said a new infection was found in the community area. The 30-year-old Taiwanese woman had a close contact with a pilot from New Zealand between Dec. 8 and 12, with the pilot infected with the coronavirus before arriving in Taiwan.

Authorities found a new infected person after examining all persons with a history of close contact with the pilot.

In addition, around 167 people had come into contact with a new infected woman before she was quarantined.

Taiwan controlled the number of infections nationwide at 770, 632 have been cured, with only seven deaths due to travel restrictions in the early stages of the epidemic. Including strict quarantine and disease investigation measures

The first confirmed cases were confirmed on Jan. 21, before banning people traveling from Wuhan to Taiwan. And all tourists traveling from China, Hong Kong and Macau are required to be screened. Later in March, all foreigners except diplomats and those with special visas were banned.

In recent months, Taiwan has successfully eradicated the virus and was able to reopen the island before it was found to be infected this time.
