Taiwan reveal their plans to counter the attack China supposed to take their sovereignty away.
Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense disclosed the plan in a biennial military strategy report released on Tuesday (9/11).
The report lays out plans by Taiwan’s armed forces to extend the military’s deterrent reach to China’s shores. The plan was drawn up if at any time the Chinese People’s Liberation Army (PLA) attacked.
“The PLA’s weakness is in the transit phase at sea. The armed forces must seize this important opportunity from the natural barrier of the Taiwan Strait and fight in a formidable manner,” the report said.
According to the Ministry of Defense, Taiwan should not limit itself to waiting for China to land through the strait.
“But it should also use measures to force the enemy to gather troops at airports or ports farther from the region opposite Taiwan.”
Given China’s overwhelming advantage in terms of manpower and resources, Taiwan plans to use asymmetrical tactics against the PLA.
As reported Reuters, the plans include countering Chinese air operations using missiles and attacking large ships with small, fast, and formidable ships.
Defensive cruise missiles and land and sea mines will be the main weapons to prevent Chinese attempts to land in Taiwan.
The report also explained that the pressure exerted by Beijing included attacks by warplanes, as well as speedboats that hit a Taiwanese coast guard vessel.
They also accuse China of using a cognitive warfare approach to influence Taiwanese public opinion.
Lately, Taiwan has indeed continued to voice their concern over the escalation of Chinese military provocations. Taiwanese and Chinese officials are fighting for sovereignty.
So far, China considers Taiwan as part of its sovereign territory. Meanwhile, Taiwan has continued to fight for their independence from China, especially after President Tsai Ing-wen came to power.
Since Tsai took control, Taiwan has continued to strengthen its military. They are even determined to produce more domestic weapons, such as submarines. They also bought a number of defense equipment from the United States.
In order to prevent further Chinese threats, Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense even claimed to strengthen their efforts to create “asymmetric warfare” so that Beijing is difficult to fight.
These efforts include drills for long-range missile strikes against China, the installation of land mines, and increased military reserve training.
