TAIPEI (Reuters) – Taiwan plans to provide all Taiwanese residents with a cash allowance equivalent to about $200, Su Tsing-Chang said on Thursday. She explained that she would share the fruits of economic growth.
According to Su, N$140 billion of tax revenues will be used for cash benefits. The per capita benefit will be NT$6,000 (US$195.61).
“The fruits of our economic successes will be shared by everyone from young to old,” he said at a press conference.
Taiwan’s economic growth is expected to slow from 6.45% in 2021, the highest since 2010.
In December, Taiwan’s central bank cut its 2022 growth forecast to 2.91% from 3.51% and 2.53% for 2023.
