Taipei: Taiwan is planning to build an anti-aircraft submarine (warship) to counter Chinese military attacks, a spokesman for the Taiwan Defense Ministry said. He said the ships should be ready in 2025 and 2026.
The Defense Ministry said US President Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan prompted China to conduct military exercises and that China has since doubled the number of ships patrolling the island to four or five.
The new construction of the warship is part of a plan to counter Chinese aggression. Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen said weapons production and storage will be increased. The Navy currently has 26 large warships.
In China, President Xi Jinping comes to power for the third time. The Taiwan issue should be discussed at the party congress. The president had previously stated that he would take all necessary steps to resolve the Taiwan issue.
