Taiwan Kalang-kabut, 52 Chinese Fighter Jets Fly Near Pratas Islands

TAIPEI – For the past three days, Taiwan reported detecting about 100 Chinese fighter jets flying along the edge of the airspace it controls. Taipei has always responded to the Chinese action by deploying a number of fighter jets to repel it.

“Taiwan deployed fighter jets after seeing 52 military aircraft belonging to the Chinese People’s Liberation Army Air Force (PLA) flying near the Taipei-controlled Pratas Islands,” Taiwan’s Ministry of Defense said Monday (4/10/2021).

A dozen Chinese H-6 bombers and 31 J-16 fighter jets were among the PLA aircraft detected.

This is the third day Taiwan has reported Chinese military aircraft flying close to the detection range of its air defense systems.

On October 3, Taiwan reported seeing 39 PLA aircraft, among them fighter jets, Y-8 anti-submarine fighter, and KJ-500 early warning and control jets.

Prior to that, Taiwan said it had seen 38 Chinese jets flying near its airspace on Friday.
