According to Defense Minister Todor Tagarev, each NATO country should develop its defense potential and each ally should allocate a minimum of 2%.
“In the North there is a clear understanding of the risk and therefore there is no question of how much is given for defense. This year we are over two percent, and those costs will increase. About 1/3 of them are for the acquisition of new armaments, modernization and construction of infrastructure. The question is whether the defense industry is ready to deliver the desired quantities, we need more capacity,” commented Tagarev to NovaNews.
Tagarev added that the EU is more focused on guarantees that the anti-Russian sanctions will be implemented than on new ones.
“The 16 F-16 aircraft will make up our combat aviation. Around March 2025 we expect the first aircraft, the question is whether we will be ready to meet them. The development of the infrastructure is a complex problem, construction has started with great delay. Only in September 2020 was the first contract concluded. We continue to receive requests for assignment changes. Construction should be completed by the end of this year.
The APCs for Ukraine are still here because it is a complex operation. We are talking about large train sets that must be secured,” the minister also said.
