Pakistan has responded to India’s notice seeking a review and modification of the Indus Waters Treaty. Pakistan is committed to the treaty, said a foreign ministry spokesperson. India served the notice after accusing Pakistan of “intransigence” in handling disputes. The modification will be discussed at the Permanent Commission of Indus Waters level after Pakistan hears India’s concerns, according to reports. India was disappointed by the appointment of a Court of Arbitration, which it believes contravenes the graded mechanism prescribed in the treaty, and has not cooperated with the court.
