Taferner saves a point in the finish of WSG Tirol against FC Blau-Weiß Linz – Bundesliga

In the ADMIRAL Bundesliga there was a clash between the WSG Tyrol and that FC Blau-Weiß Linz. The Watten team recently celebrated their second win of the season with a 3-1 win against WAC. The Tyroleans scored eight points under the leadership of Philipp Semlic. It’s been a good season for Linz so far, with 13 points already on the books. Most recently, Gerald Scheiblehner’s team had to admit defeat to champions SK Sturm Graz by a narrow margin of 1:2. This afternoon showed an open game until the end. Matthäus Taferner saves a point for the WSG in the finish 1:1 (0:1).

Duped the Linz keeper Lukse with his strange free kick goal from the left wing: Matthäus Taferner. With the goal to make it 1-1, the WSG not only saved a point, but also scored the first home goal of the season at Innsbruck’s Tivoli.

Cautious initial phase

On the field there was a thoroughly balanced initial phase, where everything was waiting for the big highlights. Lots of inaccuracies on both sides – there was little progress. The Tyroleans were not at all comfortable with Linz’s intense pressing and it repeatedly gave Scheiblehner’s team advantages. The best opportunity for the Blue-Whites came in the 18th minute when an opponent was just able to clear a Strauss header.

The Tyroleans, on the other hand, were waiting for moments of change and had a great opportunity in the 26th minute. After a corner, Üstündag finished in the penalty area – Wallner was able to intervene at the last moment.

After exactly half an hour, Linz deservedly took the lead. After strong preparatory work by Thomas Goiginger, Simon Seidl crossed and the German WSG central defender Jamie Lawrence put the ball into his own goal to give the guests a 1-0 lead. Blue-White continued to set the tone and had the opportunity in the 35th minute – but Ronivaldo failed at the outside bar. It was the last highlight in the first section – we went into the locker room with a narrow 0-1 lead.

Taferner scored a strange free kick goal to make the final score 1-1

The home team made an energetic start after the restart. There was then a lot more frequency on the pitch – an exciting game in which there were also dangerous counterattack opportunities for Linz. Simon Seidl narrowly missed out in the 51st minute. It went back and forth and both teams had good opportunities.

In the finish, the Tyroleans once again threw everything forward and were actually rewarded. In the 82nd minute, it was Taferner who converted a free kick from the left position to make it 1-1, with Blue-White keeper Lukse making an unfortunate figure, reportedly looking into the deep floodlights.

In the last few minutes there was a lot of hectic activity on the pitch. Both teams wanted to win the game – but in the end it remained a draw and that was quite fair given the second half.
