Days of victory for the Greek Olympic Taekwondo in snowy Sarajevo and the U21 European Championship. He had the opportunity on Friday to see Stella Marentakis and Raphael Ioannis Maretis reach the finals of their categories and complete their efforts with gold and silver medals respectively. Two medals that came to be added to the other two that our country won in the first two days of the games and which will give it an impetus to be as high as possible in the general ranking of the event.
Marentaki even made it her third medal in European championships (she was 1st in 2019 in girls and 3rd in 2022 in U21), at the same time that Maretis celebrated his second personal medal in European championships after 3rd place in 2018 in boys. At the same time, Greece needs one more medal, in order to reach the 40th in the history of the event, specifically since 2012 when it did… a foot in the awards!
Marentaki completed the competitive marathon at -67 kg, without missing a single period. She prevailed 2-0 over Mela from Cyprus, 2-0 over Krivova from Russia (AIN), 2-0 over Kowalkowska from Poland and with the same score she overcame the resistance of the Spanish Moreno in the final, from which she scored up to today he counted two consecutive defeats.
Maretis, for his part, defeated Croatia’s Brandura 2-1 in the round of 16, entered the medals after a 2-0 win over Russian (AIN) Lyubinski, while advancing to the final after a great upset victory (2-1 ) by Serbo Idcukovic. There he was defeated 2-0 by the Spanish Trointino, who in his resume has a bronze medal in the World Championship and as of today three medals in the European Championships, two of which are gold.
