The race for the White House is getting tougher as both former President Donald Trump and current Vice President Kamala Harris target battleground states in recent days.
Why Michigan?
Michigan is a battleground early voting state with 15 electoral votes. Whether this state is “blue” – the symbolic color of the Democratic Party – or “red” – the color of the Republican Party – is very important for the two candidates.
According to a FiveThirtyEight poll, Ms. Harris still leads Mr. Trump in Michigan, 47.6% to 47.1%. Other polls show that Ms. Harris and Mr. Trump are actually tied in Michigan.
In the United States, Michigan, along with Wisconsin and Pennsylvania, is part of the so-called “Rust Belt” due to its history of heavy industry. All three states have similar voting traditions.
According to DW, the entire election could be decided by a handful of voters in these key states.
This continues to be another reason for Mr. Trump and Ms. Harris to campaign together in Michigan on October 26, with the venue just over 6 miles apart.
Mr. Trump’s tactics

At a rally in suburban Detroit, Michigan, on October 26, Mr. Trump announced that he had just met a group of local Muslim clerics. The former president then argued that he deserved the support of Muslim voters because he would end the conflict and bring peace to the Middle East.
“That’s all they want,” Trump said, promising autoworkers that he would reverse the economic downturn in the Detroit area and across the country.
According to the Reuters news agency, Trump did not say how he would end the conflict in the Middle East. Yet he still receives support from some Muslim Americans — those who have been dissatisfied with the Biden-Harris administration’s policies since the Gaza conflict erupted.
Imam Belal Alzuhairi of the Islamic Center of Detroit appeared on stage with Mr. Trump. “We ask Muslims to support President Trump because he promises peace,” he urged.
Previously, the former president sarcastically criticized his opponent for only knowing how to party when Israel attacked Iran, raising further tensions in the Middle East. At the time, the current vice president was hosting an event with singer Beyoncé in Texas.
After leaving Michigan, Mr. Trump went to Pennsylvania, where he tried to win over young voters with a rally on the campus of Pennsylvania State University.
As he brought the school’s wrestling team onto the stage, he said, “We have to finish with a big win on November 5th.”
The former first lady rocked the stage

In the southern Michigan city of Kalamazoo, Ms. Harris mobilized voters by pointing to the contrast between her and Mr. Trump on issues such as abortion rights, taxes and health care.
Former first lady Michelle Obama also appeared at the event, stirring the crowd by citing differences in personal character and qualifications between the two candidates, with Ms. Harris having better qualifications.
“I’m a little disappointed that some of us are ignoring Mr. Trump’s obvious incompetence and demanding that Ms. Harris overwhelm us on everything,” the former first lady raised the issue and urged all undecided voters to do so Way to escape thinking.
The former first lady of the US also mentioned women’s health, saying that Mr. Trump does not understand the complexity of this issue and other health programs that benefit people.
Ms. Harris, for her part, spoke optimistically, but after just a few minutes she was interrupted by a protester who repeatedly shouted: “No more war in Gaza.”
The crowd supporting Ms Harris also shouted back to prevent disruption. The vice president then declared, “This war must end,” then continued on the issue at hand, urging voters to overcome the division.
“Over the last eight years, Mr. Trump has become more confused, more unstable, angrier and clearly more and more out of control. At least last time there were people who could control him, but remember that this time they are no longer supporting him,” Ms Harris said.
