From Saturday, the Polish Internet is alive with a high-profile government issue The Culture Support Fund, in which the exorbitant amounts were to go to the pockets of more or less famous stage artists. Golec Uorkiestra for example, they won PLN 1.8 million for themselves from taxpayers’ money, Kamil Bednarek yanked half a million, while a relatively unknown rapper Miuosh showed that he owed him 2 million zlotys, although last year he publicly boasted that he could quit his job and continue to live comfortably. The full list of beneficiaries (also known for celebrities “list of disgrace”) you will find HERE.

Among the names of stars that did not hesitate for a moment before reaching out for taxpayers’ money, there was also Taco Hemingway – undoubtedly one of the most popular musicians, and even more rappers of the young generation. The artist decided to issue a special statement on this matter. As he claims, the application for support was submitted only by his manager running a large event company, while he himself was not to get a single zloty of assistance.

Contrary to what some media are trying to suggest, I have not downloaded or applied for a single zloty from the government’s Artist Allowance Program. Realizing my privileged position, I would NEVER seek any public funding aimed at helping people and businesses affected by a pandemic. I think that front page people, people with lucrative advertising contracts and substantial income with royalties should not reach out for any public money – no matter if they are “lying on the table” and “waiting to be taken” or not – the indignant musician roars, evidently referring to awkward and compromising excuses Kamil Bednarek.

I found out about the subsidy scandal yesterday, with surprise and bitterness, watching the list of famous names next to the exorbitant sums of the allowance. Today, however, I saw that several websites are trying to hook me up to this festival of greed, while accusing me of hypocrisy. It is mistakenly suggested that I received the money for which my manager Jan Porębski applied. Meanwhile, he runs his own event company cooperating with many artists and artists, and like many people from the industry, he applied for funding for his activity in order to pay for employees – drivers, sound engineers, equipment suppliers, people from production, i.e. industry employees who were deprived of their livelihoods by the pandemic. Not a single zloty from the allowance was to go to me – says Taco.

The rapper has already proved to be a staunch opponent of government policy. And this time he used the opportunity to solidly point out the practices of Law and Justice.

The current scandal is one of many examples improper disposal of public money in our country. In May I transferred a significant amount for me to help the Polish health servicebecause I can see and know from my doctors how under-financed it is. However, I am aware that this duty of the state there should be funding for both healthcare and other industry workers who are most affected by the pandemic. I was relieved to receive the information from the Ministry of Culture that the government would at least temporarily suspend the planned payments. Public outrage begins to reap its crops. Perhaps someone will carefully consider who actually needs help and who he will do perfectly well without it – ended the youth idol with a hint of hope.

Do you believe that his appeal will hit the consciences of some colleagues from the industry?
