Tackling DHF, Makassar prepares to procure 153 units of “fogging” equipment

Another effort made is to aggressively distribute abate powder to the community as well as giving it to places that are flooded with water and can cause mosquito larvae.

Makassar (ANTARA) – The Makassar City Government, South Sulawesi, will immediately prepare as many as 153 units of fogging equipment to tackle dengue hemorrhagic fever (DHF) cases, which are expected to continue to increase in this area.

“Hundreds of fogging tools are intended for every kelurahan in Makassar City, which means that each kelurahan will be equipped with one fogging device from 153 kelurahan throughout Makassar City,” said Acting (Plt) Head of Makassar City Health Office, Dr. Andi Hadijah Iriani R. , Sp.THT.MSi, in Makassar, Tuesday.

However, he said, the procurement of these tools must go through existing processes and mechanisms, including preparing a procurement budget to tendering and purchasing tools.

“Alhamdulillah, the procurement can be entered and we have started preparing the tender documents. God willing, the tender will be completed quickly, so it is possible that the goods will be available in August. Most importantly, the specifications are clear and according to the price,” he said.

He mentioned that the Makassar Health Office had received the assistance of a unit of fogging equipment from the Provincial Government of South Sulawesi and a unit from the volunteer community, but admitted that these tools were not sufficient to control dengue cases in Makassar City.

Another effort that is being made is to aggressively distribute abate powder to the community as well as to give it to places that are flooded with water and can cause mosquito larvae.

The puskesmas has also stepped down in an effort to provide education and socialization to the community to maintain the cleanliness of the surrounding environment, although this is admitted by Dr. Iriani quite late.

According to him, dengue cases have been repeated every year during the transitional season, from the rainy season to the dry season and all people have realized this. So the community should have been able to anticipate dengue cases well in advance.

“The method is very simple, that people must improve their environment, such as no puddles and hanging clothes, drainage must flow so that they do not become a source of mosquito laying eggs. That is the first step to eliminate mosquito larvae in the house,” he said.

This continues to be touted to the public, including asking to be alert to the most fatal cases of DHF that can cause death.

“Moreover, dengue cases continue to increase, some submit their reports and some do not,” he said.

He said that the puskesmas had found several cases of dengue fever in one family. So the cleanliness of the environment is the most important thing to pay attention to.

“Environmental cleanliness is the first thing in preventing DHF, fogging is actually the last resort. So people must also be aware of cleaning their environment,” said Andi Hadijah Iriani R.
