Table of Contents – Country – Hungary’s largest rural road interchange has been announced

A new junction will be created near Kecskemét at the junction of the M44 motorway, the M5 motorway and the main road 5 – announced the Hungarian builders.

The project will be implemented by rebuilding the Kecskemét Észak junction of the M5, number 74, and is expected to be completed in the first half of 2027. The investment is related to the construction of the westernmost part of the M44, which will be created as general contractor Hódút Építő Kft., a member of the Duna Group, on a new 33.6-kilometer route with 14 artificial objects.

The largest center in the area is created

According to an announcement from the Ministry of Construction and Transport (ÉKM), the newly built section will be connected to highway 5 and the M5 highway from the direction of Bekéscsaba after its completion – traffic will also be ensured when the to build a junction. In the next few days, Hódút Épító will start building the junction at the junction of the M44 and the M5. From here, the M44 continues as the M8 motorway. According to long-term plans, it will be connected to the M7 motorway via Dunaújváros and Székesfehérvár.

József Pántya, deputy secretary of state responsible for road and rail construction at the Ministry of Transport and Communications, said that the intersection between the M44 and the 5 motorways will also be built here. All nodes are implemented as individual level nodes. “With the exception of the M0 ring road, the largest junction in Hungary will be created, or it can be said that the largest rural junction will be built.”

During the construction period, there will be restrictions, from Thursday the exit at junction number 74 will be closed to traffic coming from Szeged to Kecskemét and Lajosmizse. However, planning processes for the additional 42-kilometer section of the M44, which includes the link between the Hungarian-Romanian border and Békéscsaba, have also begun. This completes the M44 expressway from Kecskemét to the Romanian border.
