The chairman of the Tabasco State Agricultural Council and the chairman of the National Banana Product System Committee, Adrian Prats Lealreported that this 2022 has been able to meet the half Annual production and marketing.
The leader of the sector in the country, explained that it was difficult for them to reach 100% supply due to the complications they had in inputs such as fertilizers, due to the high price it had.
“It has been a tough year for bananas, it has to be said, due to the pandemic and unfortunately inputs have gone up massively, the costs of inputs like fertilizers, so for us to have good production Annual We need to fertilize our plantations, so we have run out of resources to meet the quotas of fertilizers that the plantations need, so we have experienced a decline in production. – But did they respect the national market? – Totally, 100 percent and we also had to export,” she said.
Prats Leal revealed that in the meeting they had with the President of the Republic, Andrés Manuel López Obrador, he promised to help the field sector with fertilizers.
In this sense, he said he hoped that by 2023 they would not only meet production for the domestic market, but also to increase exports.
“The President of the Republic was also asked to talk to him about the problem of fertilizers, he promised us to act on it and see how we can be helped because for us, fertilizing is one of the fundamental parts of banana cultivation”, he pointed out.
