“I am very happy that Taavi Aas was elected to the board of the Union of Estonian Cities and Towns. This is a colleague who knows the dynamics and functioning of local governments down to the last detail, and I have no doubt that his contribution to the work of the association’s board will be very valuable,” commented the chairman of the board of the Association of Estonian Cities and Towns Mihail Kõlvart.
In the years 2005–2017, Aas was the deputy mayor of Tallinn, 2015–2017 the acting mayor of Tallinn, and 2017–2019 the mayor of Tallinn. From April 29, 2019 to June 3, 2022, Aas was the Minister of Economy and Infrastructure.
Taavi Aas was the chairman of the board of the Union of Estonian Cities from February 2010, and when the Union of Estonian Cities and the Union of Estonian Municipalities were merged in February 2018, he headed the Union of Estonian Cities and Municipalities until May 2019.
“It is my greatest pleasure to meet again with old colleagues from municipalities on the one hand, and to get to know new colleagues on the other. Municipalities are facing a lot of challenges these days, and I hope that with advice and strength I can share previous experiences on municipal issues as well as help find solutions on current issues,” said the newly elected member of the board of the Union of Estonian Cities and Towns, mayor of Jõgeva.
