TAAG Angola Airlines has taken delivery of its first A220-300

On September 20, the airline TAAG Angola took delivery of its first Airbus A220 at the Airbus plant in Mirabel, Canada. The aircraft is an A220-300, which will fly for the airline under the registration D2-TAA. The narrowbody jet was produced by the manufacturer with the manufacturer’s serial number 55294.

The new Airbus is not only TAAG Angola Airlines’ first A220, but also the first aircraft in the fleet to carry the airline’s new livery, which was introduced earlier this year. TAAG’s A220-300s have a total of 137 seats for passengers. 125 passengers can be seated in Economy Class and 12 in Business Class.

TAAG has secured up to 15 A220s through leasing agreements to replace its current fleet of eight Boeing 737-700s. TAAG – Linhas Aereas de Angola Airlines will lease its first six A220s – including the D2-TAA – from the Los Angeles-based leasing company Air Lease Corporation (ALC) under long-term lease agreements. TAAG currently operates an active fleet of 16 aircraft, including four Boeing 777-300ERs and four 777-200s.

Nelson de Oliveira, CEO of TAAG Angola Airlines, said at the handover of the aircraft: “The acquisition of the A220-300 demonstrates TAAG’s commitment to modernisation and growth as the company builds a versatile fleet to meet market demand as part of its expansion plan. This means new routes and higher flight frequencies. The new aircraft type will be equipped with an Angolan crew, with several teams benefiting from comprehensive training programmes.”
