This Saturday we are going to talk about one of the most characteristic shirts of English football in particular and of world football in general: the red shirt with white sleeves from the Arsenal FC.
Arsenal’s colors have been red and white since its inception. The original club jerseys were red, donated by the Nottingham Forest through two former players who worked at the munitions factory.
In 1933, technician Herbert Chapman introduced the white sleeves, so characteristic of the club, and that allowed it to differentiate itself from teams such as Liverpool or Manchester United.
There are several theories about the origin of these sleeves. One says that Chapman was inspired by an amateur who sported a red vest over a white shirt, Or that inspiration came from seeing his friend Tom Webster, with whom he used to play golf, in a similar outfit. Since then, and with the exception of a couple of seasons in which pre-1933 uniforms have been honored, the red jersey with white sleeves has been immovable.
I hope you liked the article. Until tomorrow.
