An unprecedented sale. One of the best preserved T-rex skulls in the world was sold on Friday 9 December in New York by Sotheby’s auction house. Transaction amount: nearly $6.1 million. The buyer remained anonymous. A substantial figure, but well below the estimates of the experts. Specialists had estimated the price of this extraordinary fossil at between 15 and 25 million dollars.
baptized “The Greatest King”, this 65-million-year-old Tyrannosaurus rex skull weighs 91 kilos and is almost 2 meters tall. It was discovered in an exceptionally well-preserved state in South Dakota, a state located in the north-central United States. The rest of the body unfortunately did not survive the erosion.
