An institutional but also essential visit was made this morning to the Ioannina Police Station by the candidate for mayor with the “Unity of Citizens of Nea Ioannina”, Thomas Begas, accompanied by candidate municipal councilors of his faction.
In the meeting with the Police Director of Ioannina, Mr. Muselimis, the other senior executives and all the police officers, the need for cooperation between the two agencies was agreed with the aim of the safety and quality of life of the citizens as well as that of the public space.
The education and attitudes of citizens in relation to the respect of public space should be a primary concern in the effort to shape a modern culture of its management.
However, since this takes time on the one hand and on the other hand there will always be a part of society with a propensity for delinquency, the role of the police in cooperation with the municipality to deal with such phenomena is crucial.
In the meeting with the Union of Police Officers of Ioannina, it was agreed the need to relocate the police station to the area of the Velissario camp, as is also foreseen in the overall planning of the city, but also the need to strengthen the Corps with transfers and recruitments.
Mr. Begas promised that if a mayor is elected, the municipality of Ioannito will be a lever of pressure on the relevant actors so that we get the desired results for both of these important issues.
