First Romed Baumann in the Super-G, then Kira Weidle and finally Andreas Sander in the downhill – with three silver medals in Cortina d’Ampezzo, the German Ski Association has started more successfully than in a world championship in over 40 years. And after the speed week, the technicians could also take the podium in the second half of the event. The DSV has long since ceased to be an outsider at this World Cup.
In contrast, the German biathletes in Pokljuka, Slovenia, are still looking for form. After five races still no German medal, historically poor results for the men and noticeable problems with shooting – even for the women, when success was so close. National coach Mark Kirchner says: “It can turn very quickly”. But can it really still do that after such a bad start?
The new episode of “And now to the sport” with Saskia Aleythe, Anna Dreher and Johannes Knuth on the previous results of the German biathlon and alpine skiing team at the world championships, explanations and assessments of what the next few days could bring.
