The large building of the Pilsen railway station should shine in its original beauty in 2.5 years.
The Railway Administration (SŽ) has started a comprehensive renovation of the listed station building of Pilsen’s main railway station for 668 million crowns. The work should last 2.5 years, said SŽ spokeswoman Nela Friebová. The contract was won by the association of companies Metrostav DIZ, OHL ŽS and Avers.
“The construction follows on from the modernization of platforms and other parts of the station, which took place in recent years. The main one will be the complete reconstruction of the station building from 1907. It will mainly include the repair of the roof and perimeter cladding and the modification of the interior spaces on the ground floor and first floor of the check-in hall to improve services for passengers. “ said the general director of SŽ Jiří Svoboda.
The builders will rebuild the upper hall, which will serve as a waiting room with a shopping arcade and shops on both sides. Internal wiring, windows and doors will be replaced, which will reduce energy consumption. The administrative and operational background of SŽ and carriers will be created.
Between the main and upper hall, the Railway Administration will have escalators and elevators built, and will rebuild public toilets with barrier-free access. The main hall will have new lighting and cameras. The orientation and information system will include voice beacons for the blind and induction loops for the hearing impaired.
Last month, the city of Pilsen cultivated the space at the side entrance to the railway station, next to the bus terminal, for 25 million crowns. It built the Hamburg Deck there, a 12-meter observation tower, residential stairs, benches and terraces, snack stalls and an information center. The side entrance from Šumavská Street has been more frequented for several years than the main entrance with a car park.
