By allying with Nikos Pappas and further strengthening his presence in the internal party system, Stefanos Kasselakis attempts to overcome the intense internal party controversy. His decision to appoint the previous parliamentary representative, head of the Parliamentary Group it is a clear indication that he is looking for supports in the party.
The former minister a year ago gave him a political helping hand, supporting him in the second round of the elections. St. Kasselakis recognized this and essentially anointed Nikos Pappa as No. 2 in the party. It now gives him more vital political space, a move that has further angered the Tsipras bloc, the “87” and others who disagree with St. Kasselakis.
The replacement of Sokratis Famellos by N. Pappa was an expected move for insiders as St. Kasselakis is looking for allies to prevent a possible impeachment motion by Pavlos Polakis or even the 87.
The MP Fthiotidas is placed in N. Pappa’s place Yannis Sarakiotisa person who supports the choices of St. Kasselakis for a long time, while two other persons who have supported the president of SYRIZA the George Gavrilos and the Nina Kasimati are the other two parliamentary representatives.

At the same time St. Kasselakis sent a message that he is not leaving and asked that practically everyone, those who question him, commit publicly that they are not going to leave to any “new organization” without popular legitimation.
“It is clear: Whoever attempts to deprive SYRIZA of the position of official opposition that the Greek people gave it in the 2023 elections and reaffirmed in the 2024 European elections, will commit the greatest democratic crime: The alteration of the citizens’ vote in terms of the parliamentary party representation. And it will bear the stamp forever. Not by me. From the Greek people,” he emphasized.
At the same time, he called on everyone to make a clear commitment to abide by the decision of the members of SYRIZA, the Congress, the Central Committee – all these consecutive decisions which have empowered him to lead the effort to dismantle SYRIZA and create a large progressive government faction in view of the national elections.
