A breath before the opening of the polls for the election of representatives in view of the Extraordinary conference to elect the president of SYRIZA-PS, the tension is peaking and the climate of division is strengthening in Koumoundourou. Executives close to Stefanos Kasselakis complain that the majority of the “87” is planning to exclude delegates, taking advantage of a “window” opened by members of the Central Organizing Committee of the Conference (KOES) regarding criteria for anti-party behavior and provision for the creation of a committee to legitimize delegates…
At the same time, the majority of the “87+” face with disbelief the reactions of the secretaries which are strengthened at every stage of the pre-conference process. The anti-kasselakists judge that the constant complaints and tension from the kasselists, in view of the election of delegates on November 2 and 3, 2024, which will also determine the correlations in the conference, are a prelude to the questioning of the procedures, step by step, until…. delegitimization of the same conference and its decisions if they are not liked by the treasurers.
In any case, the new battleground between custodians and anti-custodians was the meeting of October 31st of the KOES. The climate of confrontation intensified after the leak of a draft circular to the organizations which had the following reference: “The Delegate Legitimation Committee announces the delegates and the runners-up. The Delegates Legalization Committee operates based on the decisions of the Council of Ministers. According to the Decision of K.E. of October 12, 2024, the hurling of accusations of involvement, diversion, hoodlums, coups, junta, etc., are absolutely reprehensible phenomena and these behaviors are not consistent with the behavior of members (…)”.
Executives of SYRIZA, supporters of Stefanos Kasselakis, judged that this wording can be used to “cut” delegates, after their election in the Member Organizations, as representatives, which, according to Kasselakis, is unprecedented for the SYRIZA-PS factions. Five members of KOES who support Stefanos Kasselakis, (Yiannis Voulgarakis, Maria Kaludioti, Chara Kafantari, Thanos Moraitis, Giorgos Dzimanis, Yiannis Papaioannou, Theodora Tzakri) denounced that the exclusion of individual congressmen but also of entire anti-democratic organizations is sought methods . They noted that this is a direct violation of the competences of the Ethics Committee and that it is a prelude to the anti-democratic and substitutive conditions of the Congress, “desperately seeking to alter its composition and thus control its decisions”. In fact, they pointed out that they are referring the matter to the Ethics Committee. In more detail, in the announcement of the “5” of the CET, issued late on Thursday night (31. 10.2024), their objections are formulated as follows:
“During today’s meeting of the CET, the opposition to the democratic will of the members escalated.
By decision of the current majority of the CEEC, the exclusion is sought, not just of individual delegates, but even of the entire O.M. and NE, who dare to have and express a different opinion from the decisions of the Central Committee and the General Assembly.
This is a direct violation of the competences of the Ethics Committee and is a prelude to the anti-democratic and substitutive conditions of the Congress, desperately seeking to alter its composition and thus control its decisions. However, the river does not turn back.
We refer the issue to the Ethics Committee and call on all members of SYRIZA – PS to participate in the electoral process.”
