In this warlike atmosphere, as was evident from the atmosphere at the conference which in some places resembled a stadium with fan attitudes, since Saturday night, there are two gladiators (so many are uncomfortable with the term rivals) Stefanos Kasselakis and Olga Gerobasili.
The vice-president of the Parliament and MP of Artas dared, and with the urging of central officials, but mainly because of her determination she chose to confront St. Kasselakis who immediately responded to her speech and asked for the elections to be held on March 10.
Despite the many behind-the-scenes efforts that were made not to reach this point, the delegates heard both of them announce their candidacies, but this does not mean that everything has been closed and the procedures have been launched.
There is the statute that defines the framework for how the elections are conducted and above all is the supreme body which is the congress that will decide tomorrow on everything for a party that is sinking into the black hole of introversion.
Obviously there were two moves: the speech of Olga Gerovasilis with the announcement of her candidacy and the intervention of St. Kasselaki immediately after. However, in the political equation of the congress there is pressure and proposals not to lead the party to the elections.
The intervention of Nikos Pappas is of particular importance from many sides in the context of the necessary and salutary, at the present stage, compromise between the two sides.
At the same time, the intervention of the head of the KO of SYRIZA – PS Sokratis Famellos has its special value, which is roughly on the same wavelength. The same as the move of the director of K.O. of Giorgos Tsipras who asked for the postponement of the elections who spoke quite rightly about suicide for the party to go through this process just before the European elections. All three are against the elections, moving along the lines of many members and executives.
It remains to be seen what will happen on Sunday afternoon after the intense backstage night.
