The desecration of the Greek Orthodox Cemetery of Agios Eleftherios in the community of Tataoulon in Constantinople is a particularly heinous act, which actually took place one day before the Divine Liturgy at the Monastery of Panagia Soumela in Trebizond.
We call on the government to come out of its summer slumber and react to this new challenge in order for Turkey to respect the human rights and religious freedoms of the Greek minority in Turkey, which are expressly provided for by the Treaty of Lausanne and have been violated for decades. Turkey must take the necessary actions to immediately identify those responsible for this heinous act and bring them to justice.
At the same time, it is necessary to make it clear to the Turkish side that the road to the normalization of Greek-Turkish relations passes exclusively and only through respect for international law and the principle of good neighborliness without nationalistic outbursts.
