SYRIZA: The decision of the Central Committee – What it says about the election of the president –

“The whole process towards the election of the new president of the party should not and cannot be introverted. At the same time, we develop actions primarily for the major social national and international problems, with the issue of peace at the forefront. No one has the right to ignore the duties of SYRIZA-PS towards the Greek people, who entrusted it with the responsibility of the official opposition, nor the mandate to strengthen and unite the party”, states the decision of the Central Committee of SYRIZA .

At the same time, it is pointed out that the leak of Stefanos Kasselakis is condemned, while regarding the extrajudicial letter he sent to the PG and the KE, it is noted that “it is an act unprecedented in the annals of the Greek Republic and contrary to the fundamental principles of the operation of political parties. It is an absolutely unacceptable move, and it is returned as such to the sender.”

“SYRIZA-PS will move forward, with unity, determination and guided by the needs and hopes of Greek society. With a sense of responsibility towards the left-wing, progressive, democratic citizens, he will continue even more vigorously his fight for the overthrow of the anti-popular and anti-social policies of the Mitsotakis government, for the progressive counterattack and overthrow. And it will become even more powerful, with even deeper roots in society. Core of the progressive faction, voice and strength of all citizens who belong from the radical Left to the progressive center, sharer of hope and perspective for the place.

SYRIZA-PS has before it the fight for its reorganization. Its congress on November 8-10, 2024, the election of a president on November 24, 2024 and a new Central Committee on the dates already decided. No one has the right to ignore the duties of SYRIZA-PS towards the Greek people, who entrusted it with the responsibility of the official opposition, nor the mandate to strengthen and unite the party.

We unequivocally condemn the leak of the personal information of Stefanos Kasselakis. A leak which has nothing to do with the Secretary of the Central Committee, nor with the party’s organs. And which took place a few hours before the convening of the General Assembly, which would decide on the publication and posting of the candidates’ credentials, implementing the relevant decisions of the Executive Committee.

The extrajudicial protest against K.E. and P.G. of SYRIZA by the former president, is an act unprecedented in the annals of the Greek Republic and contrary to the fundamental principles of operation of political parties. It is an absolutely unacceptable move, and it is returned as such to the sender.

The continued effort to create artificial tension serves plans, injures the party as a whole, and antagonizes SYRIZA members and friends.

Throwing accusations of involvement, diversion, hoodlums, coups, juntas, etc., are absolutely reprehensible phenomena and these behaviors are not consistent with the behaviors of members of an organized party, let alone members who hold or claim a position of responsibility such as the position of the president. They damage the image and credibility of the party, they create a climate of disappointment and revulsion among the tens of thousands of members of SYRIZA-PS, while they are completely out of step with the needs of society. Moreover, this was also the context of our decision already from the K.E. of November 2023.

All those, like Stefanos Kasselakis, who do not respect the decisions of the collective bodies, such as the recent ones with the removal of confidence in the president and his removal from the position of president, hurl slander against their party and reach the to the point of taking legal action against the collective bodies of the party, they cannot be candidates for presidents.

For this, a massive, active, decisive presence and participation is necessary, in all processes, with a comradely spirit, political culture and discussion based on political arguments. Because only in this way, SYRIZA-PS will become even stronger, it will regain a governmental perspective, responding to its historical role and to the needs and expectations of the great social majority”.
