The gap in SYRIZA between Stefanos Kasselakis and his supporters with the current majority which has the core of the “87” group is deepening every day.
With all the ridiculous things that are happening, the party that is sinking in the opinion polls (s.s.: its last GPO recorded 7.6%) is increasingly discredited and is heading full speed to the percentages of the parliamentary elections of 2009 where it moved in the zone of 5-5%, 5%.
The split, based on what is being said by both warring sides, is a given and just remains to be formalized and ratified, as “To Vima” has long noted. At the same time, there is a scenario of the independence of SYRIZA MPs who support St. Kasselakis. If this happens and at least five MPs become independent, SYRIZA will lose the position of official opposition and it will be occupied by PaSoK, which is starting to rise in opinion polls after the re-election of Nikos Androulakis as its leader.
Roman arena SYRIZA
SYRIZA resembles a Roman arena and if the congress, scheduled for the three days of November 8-9 and 10, takes place, it will turn into a final showdown between the two sides.
At this moment the current majority of the “87” insist that planning will proceed as normal, that nothing changes regarding the conference and that there are no thoughts of postponement. This is on paper and in the meetings, because in the background there is a big discussion about whether it should be postponed in order to achieve intra-party calm, but for the elections to take place as normal (although even for them there is a discussion about whether they should be postponed).
If this is done, the goal is to weaken the wave of support for Mr. Kasselakis, who has been excluded from the elections based on the decision of the KE on Saturday, October 12.
The image of a SYRIZA whose cadres will… be slaughtered at the conference will not only act as a demotivator, but a solvent. Already the political product SYRIZA is discredited daily with the responsibility of all sides, causing sadness and anger to many officials and voters who move in the gray zone of neutrality.
Indifference and extreme characterizations
Because the armies, here and there, do not care, as can be seen from what they do, about the public image of SYRIZA, with the result that an increasing number of voters are turning away. The extreme dissensions on the internet largely reflect the unbridgeable gap that exists between them and the impossibility of being in the same political space the next day.
Unprecedented situations: the KE to exclude a candidate from the elections. The press office should issue a statement that the decision is final and irrevocable. The “casselistas” should insist that this is a replacement.
The Political Secretariat to “seize”, like last Thursday, St. Kasselakis and to show the way to the conference. The Ethics Committee, where the majority is “Casselist”, to send a message that the conference decides on the candidate leaders and no one else. And let the other candidate leaders say that St. Kasselakis to be a candidate, except for Pavlos Polakis who directly told the PG that he was “one of the 87” who excluded him.
The deletion script
Essentially, absolute chaos is recorded. And in this climate of dissolution, the scenario is still hanging over whether Mr. Kasselakis should be deleted, who is preparing his own response with a gathering in the center of Athens after the first leg of his tour in western Macedonia.
The battle is at all levels and is not only for the organizational, but also for the influence of the delegates. The “87” are mobilizing members who had moved away from the party, while Kasselakis invites his supporters to mass registration through his website in order to elect delegates and, depending on the associations, to move to support his candidacy.
The website is considered by his opponents as a “party within the party” movement, since according to the PG it uses the name of SYRIZA-PS in its domain name.
The climate in all organizations is tense and there are few soft voices, such as that of Rena Douro, who, according to experienced executives, would be a good candidate that would give perspective. “The crucial thing is to build the alternative, reliable, progressive, program proposal with which our party will become the driving force of the democratic, left-wing, progressive faction. From this call, no one and no one is left out”, said the head of the Foreign Affairs department recently.
The deadline for nominations
Its intervention is judged to be particularly serious in the current period of merciless conflict. And the statement of the former secretary of SYRIZA, Panos Rigas, was not just by chance: “Anyone who wants to can submit a candidacy at the conference.” And here comes another serious issue that causes tensions, but leaves society indifferent: When is the deadline for nominations? On the 24th or at the conference? Another area of tension for the next few days.
