SYRIZA: Temporary truce before the conference – 2024-02-24 13:50:18

With steps back from both sides, the new marathon -almost five hours long- meeting of the Political Secretariat of SYRIZA which had started shortly after 19:00 on Tuesday (20/2) and came to an end at midnight was completed.

According to the information that became known, a temporary compromise was reached between the two sides, as both Stefanos Kasselakis and the members of the governing body wanted to bring out the reaffirmation of the “two-way relationship of trust” that governs them. At least until the European elections in June, the outcome of which will also define the future.

As characteristically the SYRIZA PG informed:

“In the General Assembly that met today, after an extensive, productive and honest discussion and fully aware of the current situation regarding the major issues that concern and afflict Greek society:

a) the mutual trust and support between the President and the members of the Political Secretariat was expressed

b) the function of PG as a political center was reaffirmed.

The Conference will be held from Thursday 22/2 until 25/2, based on the positions discussed during the pre-conference dialogue. A reboot and rebuild conference that will mark the “PROGRESSIVE COUNTER-ATTACK NOW”.

Kasselakis recalled

Of course, for this to happen, the president of the party was forced to withdraw the letter to the members of the Political Secretariat, through which he criticized the way they react to his every initiative, seeing chimeras and conspiracy scenarios everywhere.

As also St. Kasselakis also backed down on the issue of rechristening his presidency from the base of the party, asking to find an opponent who would confront him, while the scenario of submitting a censure against him was on the table – which was not activated in the end.

It seems that the intervention of Dionysis Tebonera played a key role during the stormy debate. The Patrinos labor expert put the president of the party in front of his responsibilities, as he typically mentioned that the people’s exhortation to him was not to dismantle what he received, just to change it.

He even called on him that if he is really asking for a rebaptism of the anointing he had received in the autumn in order to lead SYRIZA, then to proceed immediately with the required statutory procedures, otherwise he is blackmailing by jumping into the void. “The Leftists are not being blackmailed” he said among other things and rejected the “de facto dissolution of SYRIZA”.

The Kasselakis ultimatum and the refusal of a blank check

Earlier, addressing the members of the General Assembly, St. Kasselakis had shown his own intentions by playing the communication card of the ultimatum.

“It’s clear that there are operational and structural problems and that’s not just my finding, it’s the message I’m getting from our members themselves. These party structures belong to another era. I will make my proposals for statutory changes when the statutory convention takes place, which will be a reconstitution convention.

It’s not personal what I’m about to tell you, however if you can’t say you don’t trust me then say who you want. If you really don’t trust me, I request a rebaptism of the will and order of the members. Let’s go to the national elections without the permanent challenge” he said, according to information, to add: “Either president until the elections or rechristening in the Congress.”

On the other hand, however, he received the answer that everyone is judged in the Euro-election, as, as was heard, “we do not give a blank check anywhere and to anyone, you too will be judged in the Euro-elections like all of us”.

Few members were those who wanted to support the president during the meeting. The majority was diametrically opposed and that is why this temporary truce came about.
