SYRIZA Statutory Committee: Block for re-nomination of Pappas, Polakis, Gerovasilis and Famellos – All names – 2024-09-08 18:14:00

The proposal of the SYRIZA Statute Committee, which started yesterday afternoon and met until the morning hours, does not include a change in the article which says that each member of parliament has a maximum limit of three terms.

Initially, Stefanos Kasselakis had proposed that there be a limit of three terms per Region and then that the MP change region if he wants to be a candidate again.

That idea of the president changed, and yesterday the presidential side proposed a four-term limit.

However, it was finally decided in the recommendation of the Statutory Committee not to propose any change and to remain the limit of three terms, which if voted by the Statutory Congress puts a block on re-candidacy for:

Nikos Pappa, Olga Gerovasilis, Sokratis Famellos, Pavlos Polakis, Yiannis Sarakiotis, Theodora Tzakris, Nina Kasimati, Alexandros Meikopoulos, Costas Barkas, George Papailiou and George Psychogios.

Excluding Alexis Tsipras, who has served as prime minister.

It should be noted that the proposal on the specific subject must be voted on by the Congress in order to be effective. There is also the scenario that the measure will not take effect from 2015, but from the elections of 2023. It remains to be seen what will be decided.

The President of the party or the acting Prime Ministers are excluded from the obstacle”.

In simple words, with what is in effect today, no one can be a candidate again if he has been elected MP in September ’15, the summer of ’19 and last year in June, with the exception of Alexis Tsipras. Unless, of course, Kyriakos Mitsotakis sets up polls before the 32 months are up…
