SYRIZA of the four presidential candidates – What is the process? –

The extraordinary congress will continue on Saturday morning (11:00-17:00), despite the proposal to end immediately, but SYRIZA is already turning the page of the book. What will be the content of this page will depend on the new president and the political direction he will give to the party.

At the time when Stefanos Kasselakis was announcing his departure and the simultaneous creation of a new party, the body of the conference gave its approval to the four nominations for the November 24 elections. The voting that took place was electronic in order to serve those who participated in the work remotely. A total of 3072 delegates voted and 2784 were in favor. 276 voted against and 12 were white.

By extension, Apostolos Gletsos, Pavlos Polakis, Sokratis Famellos and Nikolas Farandouris had the acceptance required by the SYRIZA statute and now officially enter a two-week pre-election race with the aim of taking over the reins of the faction.

Each with its own possibilities, but above all its program and purpose. All of them spoke from the stage of the conference about the reasons that led them to claim the anointing of the base. What, of course, he will find, after the successive departures of MPs, and what the winner of the process will manage is a big question mark.

The Kasselaki era is over

Admittedly, however, SYRIZA is definitively leaving behind the Kasselakis era, after 14 months of deep existential turmoil, and moving on to another, different one.

The new president will be elected by an open ballot in which members and friends of SYRIZA have the right to participate. If there is no candidate with 50%+1, then the process will be repeated on Sunday 1st December with the two who collected the highest percentages in the first round.
