Nikos Pappas responded to the government’s claims that the Greek economy is improving.
In a related video he posted, the president of the SYRIZA Parliamentary Group presented economic data on employment, investment, growth and taxes in an attempt to debunk the New Democracy narrative.
Nikos Pappa’s answers to Finance Minister Kostis Hatzidakis were as follows:
- Employment: We are in 26th place in the EU. with just 67% employment in 2023. Half of the jobs are part-time. And, unfortunately, we are recording record deaths from occupational accidents.
- Investments: Greece is last in the EU. in investments as a percentage of GDP with 15%. It is also in the last positions in exports.
- Development: In four-year growth we are in 21st place with about 1.5% growth per year. A growth for the few, since we are last in purchasing power.
- Taxes: Despite the increase in tax revenues (over 40% from 2021) and VAT (over 50%), the government of N.D. refuses to take relief measures for the many.
As Mr. Pappas concluded, “the government cannot meet society and its needs. Let him at least make an effort to meet, even once, with the truth.”
