The intra-party rift has now reached the core of SYRIZA and the relations between the executives have been strained to a breaking point. For the time being, however, the Political Secretariat of the party chose not to request additional sanctions for Stefanos Kasselakis.
At this stage, she appeared satisfied with the rejection of his candidacy, as decided by the recent Central Committee. He even judged her “absolutely constitutional and democratic”. That is why it did not enter the procedure to refer him to the Ethics Committee for additional sanctions. He simply denounced his parallel action through the creation of a membership recruitment website that operates in competition with the faction’s pursuits.
This does not mean that the SYRIZA executive will not defend itself, either now or in the foreseeable future. In the present phase it was preferred the simple condemnation of initiatives of the former president, as well as his other reports. For information and compliance.
As was characteristically mentioned in the decision of the PG, “the creation of an online platform is another unprecedented and unprecedented event”, as “it is a consciously misleading choice, since it uses the name of SYRIZA-PS in its domain name and internally, but also competitive in our party”.

“Regarding the attitude of the government, which continues to have negative effects both on the international position of our country and on the daily life of the citizens, the Political Secretariat emphasizes that SYRIZA-PS remains an advocate of the continuation of the dialogue with the red lines clearly drawn in basis of international law. Only in this way can the interests of our country and peace in the region be served.
The submissive policies of the government in foreign policy lead on the one hand to the tacit acceptance of the development of risks and on the other hand to the possibility of tug-of-war positions within the co-republic that cannot produce equal political results, but only cracks in the fixed positions of our country in Greek-Turkish relations.
At the same time, today revealed once again the real policy of the ND government in the area of the National Health Service and the health professions. That of exchanging the universal right of citizens’ access to public Health with a few thousand free interventions, financed by the Recovery Fund.
What is really needed, however, is the strengthening of the NSS structures, the appropriate equipment and of course the necessary staff with the necessary fees and rights. What the nationwide health mobilization today, October 18, is demanding against a government that is indifferent.
“Coordinated and collective towards the election of the president”
Regarding the issues related to the party’s path to the Congress:
SYRIZA-PS will proceed in an orderly manner, with collectiveness, faithful observance of the Statute and the decisions of its competent bodies towards the election of a president.
No one and no one can hinder the institutional collective functioning of SYRIZA-PS, stop its necessary reconstruction, and deprive it of the duty and the mandate for official opposition, given to it by the Greek people in the elections.
The intra-party dialogue, from the pre-congress procedures to the presidential elections, must be based on the political debate, the submission of political plans for the present and the future of SYRIZA-PS and Greek society.
This is a basic obligation towards the left-wing, progressive citizens, and towards society as a whole, which is looking for progressive answers and a way out of the increasingly difficult everyday life created by the policies of the Mitsotakis government.
“Absolutely constitutional and democratic decision” the exclusion of Kasselakis
Despite the anti-party and vicarious pursuit for non-quorum at the meeting, K.E. of SYRIZA-PS met on October 12 with a quorum and its absolutely constitutional and democratic decision was taken with a large majority.

Rigas: “The conference will solve everything”

Civil war climate – Harsh words and disagreements
Of course, during the meeting that took place at the headquarters of SYRIZA, there was no shortage of objections and disagreements between the members of the body.
“The party will respond to the challenges of candidates” Nikos Pappas reportedly said, characterizing as “unacceptable” the strategy of not reaching a quorum implemented by the Kasselakis wing in the Central Committee. The president of KO also asserted that “the court case was not withdrawn” and that the former president’s parallel website is “an attempt to create another party”.
Olga Gerovasili insisted that “SYRIZA must defend itself” and repeated that “Kasselakis has a plan that unfolds from the European elections and continues”.
As she explained in her statement, this is happening either “to keep part of the members and the party, dissolving with a right turn what we know so far” or “to try plan b” that will lead him “to his own party”.

According to Yiannis Ragousis “Kasselakis is absolutely clear”, as he “seeks to discredit SYRIZA so that he can then proceed to create his own party that will not have SYRIZA as a strong competitor”.

That is why, as he said, the dilemma that arises for every member and every friend of SYRIZA is neither the conference nor the decisions and the extra-judicial or the boycott of the organs, but the “SYRIZA or Kasselakis”.
According to Thanasis Theocharopoulos, who moved in the same tone, those who tried “artificially” to prevent the quorum undermined “the democratic functioning of the party”. He mentioned that St. Kasselakis “insults the Central Committee every day” even though it was “the same one that supported him until September”.
“Then it became delegitimized” added the PG member in his post, agreeing that the creation of a page with the name of SYRIZA is “a choice to break with the party”. Therefore “there was rightly a vote of no confidence and his candidacy is not approved”.
Polakis: “You made me mad”
Pavlos Polakis equally criticized the attitude of both sides. On the other hand, he said that what Stefanos Kasselakis is working on “resembles Adolf Hitlerism”, especially in what has to do with the “direct democracy” he invokes.

On the other hand, Theodora Tzakri once again defended the former president, saying that “it is unacceptable that the Political Secretariat meets every week” to denounce him while all matters remain open. That is why he asked for answers both for the place where the conference will be held and for who gave the order for the announcement of the “irrevocable and immediately applicable decision of the Central Committee”.
Panos Rigas invoked article 16 of the statute saying that “anyone who wants to can submit a nomination to the conference without even thirty signatures and from where they come” pointing out that “the conference can decide on everything and do whatever it wants”, as ” has absolute sovereignty”.

He then added that “with respect to the party’s statutory procedures, intra-party democracy and pluralism, we owe it to the citizens who supported us, are supporting us, to show maturity, responsibility and to work unitedly. The work we are doing in the Parliamentary Group shows the way. I think that today this is the most essential, rather than operating sterilely, denying non-existent things, such as the occasional reports about my candidacy for the position of party president.”
“I have never operated in terms of self-suggestion, I have never operated in terms of parapolitics. And that won’t change now,” he concluded.
