“New Democracy is having a fiesta for its 50 years of history, but the majority of Greek men and women today have no reason to celebrate with it,” SYRIZA points out in a statement, commenting on the street part about the “blue jubilee”.
As it is related, “these five decades, and especially the last few years, mark policies that bring the weak to their knees and despise all those who do not strengthen the interests of the few and powerful”.
Summarizing the problems, the official opposition focuses on:
- in the accuracy that “consumes the daily life of citizens, especially that of low and medium incomes. Increases even in basic goods such as olive oil reach 56%. At the same time, the government promotes policies that encourage profiteering and leave small and medium-sized businesses struggling to survive.”
- to the very expensive rents, for which “instead of increasing the supply of housing and supporting young people and workers, the ND maintains the speculative bubble of funds, banks and unproductive investment real estate that exploits in an unprecedented dimension the right to roof”.
- in juvenile delinquency, for which “instead of looking at the deep social causes and investing in education and social welfare, the government chooses to impose even more punishments But how will violence be reduced, when the government itself cultivates inequalities and discrimination? When it hits the working and the weak, the very ones it’s supposed to protect?’
- in security, an area in which “the hypocrisy of the ND overflows. She talks about protection, while in her day crime is on the rise, gangs are on the rampage and fan violence has escalated to murder. Police station holding cells are turning up dead again, revealing the complete breakdown of any concept of social security. The people live with fear and insecurity, not only for their economic and working future, but also for their daily life”.
- in Greek-Turkish relations, where “SYRIZA is still waiting for the satisfaction of its self-evident request for information from the Prime Minister regarding the course and content of the talks with the Turkish side, after Erdoğan’s disturbing statements”.
“New Democracy is on the way out” as Koumoundourou concludes, as “its president Kyriakos Mitsotakis no longer convinces either his parliamentary group or his predecessors”.
“Society knows that it can no longer tolerate this dead-end policy that serves only a few.
SYRIZA will put aside the obstacles and difficulties of the citizens, and with their support, will fight honestly by their side to put an end to injustice and promote dignity at the basis of the progressive governance of the country” conclude from SYRIZA.
