He unequivocally condemns the Israeli order to evacuate Rafa o SYRIZA-PS and the “consequent airstrikes, which lead to new civilian deaths adding to the already tragic toll.”
In his announcement, he argues that “the evacuation order itself, as well as the strikes on civilian infrastructure, constitute new, very serious violations of international law by Israel, which exacerbate the already tragic humanitarian crisis in Gaza.”
After noting that “unfortunately, the international community avoids doing what is required by international law” he calls “even at the last moment, the UN Security Council, the European Union and all international and regional partners to abandon the attitude of selective silence and to intervene in order to achieve an immediate and permanent ceasefire, the return of all hostages, the unhindered provision of humanitarian aid, as well as the immediate resumption of credible talks in the Palestinian area, based on the 1967 borders, for a two-state solution that coexists peacefully, with East Jerusalem the capital of Palestine”.
He refers to the attitude of the government, saying that “the Mitsotakis government should also move in this direction, acting as a reliable mediator between the two sides” and adds: “Unfortunately, however, the government, acting under the logic of the advanced outpost of the West, sacrifices the active and multidimensional foreign policy pursued by SYRIZA for the sake of the doctrine of the “given ally”, as a result of which it is afraid to utter the words “ceasefire” and content itself with an unprecedented for Greek foreign policy inertia, which damages the international prestige of the country”.
In closing, he underlines that “SYRIZA-PS stands and will continue to stand by the tested friend of the Palestinian people, as well as the democratic, peace-loving voices of Israel”.
