“SYRIZA will move forward with unity, responsibility, with coordinated and democratic processes and collective decisions” is mentioned among other things in the recommendation of the Political Secretariat to the Central Committee that meets today, 15 days after the impeachment of Stefanos Kasselakis.
In the simple text of the PG, both the (so far known) conditions for nominations with the collection of signatures and the exact timetable with the final destination of the election of the president with an interim stop at the extraordinary congress are defined. Because it is a proposal, the final decision belongs to the members of the Central Committee who will approve or reject it, preferring an alternative plan.
In any case, during the meeting additional proposals for possible criteria and potential terms of participation in the proceedings are to be submitted, as objections within the opposing blocs still exist. It remains to be seen how the ever-delicate balances will be shaped.
According to current data:
The extraordinary Congress will be held November 1 to 3. Its purpose is the approval of nominations and the text of a political decision.
The election of delegates will be held October 19 and 20 with the procedure followed in February, i.e. 1/40 of the registered members. Members of the Central Committee, MPs and MEPs, members of the Youth Council, the election committee and the ethics committee have the right to participate ex officio.
The election of the president and the new Central Committee will be held on Sundays November 24 and December 1.
The candidacy for the presidency is carried out in accordance with the principles and values of the party, the provisions of the statute and the decisions of the bodies.
Each candidate will have to collect the signatures of 30 members of the Central Committee and will have a deadline to run for office at the Political Secretariat until October 24. KE members can sign for two or more candidates.
The Central Committee will meet again on October 5 for the pre-conference texts and the next day (6/10) the dialogue process will begin.
The deadline given to anyone to become a member and have the right to vote in the pre-conference proceedings and the right to vote – to be elected in the elections for the nomination of representatives and the election of the Executive Committee is October 18th.
According to the text of the proposal, SYRIZA addresses members and friends for the leadership of a large progressive electoral alliance, which “will appeal to all citizens, from the modern left to the progressive center”.
