Admittedly or not, Elena Akrita is used to expressing herself in public. He did the same when he supported Sokratis Famellos as the most suitable president of SYRIZA a few days ago.
On the day of the elections, of course, he went one step further and pledged that “if Pavlos Polakis is elected President of SYRIZA PS, I will resign, hand over the seat to the party and go home”.
In her post, the SYRIZA Member of Parliament accused the Chanioti MP of a “homophobic agenda” and of silence on the issue of the unpaid workers of Avgi and Kokkinos.

“Labour, social and human rights go hand in hand” the journalist and author wrote initially.
She then developed her thinking, noting that “in the debate, Pavlos Polakis clearly endorsed his homophobic agenda. When asked what line he would give to the Parliamentary Group if, on the passing of the Marriage Equality Bill, if he were then President of SYRIZA PS, the candidate muttered something about an imaginary ‘expansion of the cohabitation pact’, something that is only found in the sphere of more creative imagination. He hid again behind the surrogate pregnancy, intentionally silencing the amendment tabled by Athina Linou – an amendment that absolutely tightened the conditions of the relevant procedure. In this way, Pavlos Polakis was lined up on the side of the far-right parties and the KKE that voted against Marriage Equality. All are equal but some are more equal than others.”
“As for the labor rights that he trumpets, we saw his attitude on the night of the debate when he passed without a single word the unpaid colleagues of Avgi and Kokkinos” continued Mrs. Akrita who is Head of Equality and Human Rights.
Based on all of the above, he concluded: “It’s noon on Sunday and we still don’t know who will be elected. However, since I do not consider an afterthought – and certainly – position ethical, I declare: If Pavlos Polakis is elected President of SYRIZA PS, I will resign, hand over the seat to the party and go home. I commit.”
As he explained, “I entered politics for a reason. To fight for human rights. If I can’t take it anymore, I’m leaving. I will not stop fighting for Equality, visibility and inclusion, as I always have. Which means we don’t get lost. We will meet again in the same places. For the same invisible people we will fight together.”
In her postscript, she reprimanded those who “instead of resigning, become independent and keep seats and money”. “I’m sorry but we’re not all the same,” he noted.
