Syria’s New Displacement Crisis: Insights from Representative Jamil Al-Sayed

Representative Jamil Al-Sayed wrote, on his account via the “X” platform (formerly Twitter): “New displacement! The living conditions in Syria have recently become more difficult due to the economic sanctions and the Caesar Act and the occupation of its oil and agricultural areas. As a result, we have begun to witness the phenomenon of displacement from Syria, which may exceed a million displaced people during the next few months, which is more dangerous than the security displacement.

He asked, “What will our state do about this situation when most of our senior officials are hypocrites and speak two languages: a language in secret with foreign ambassadors in which they agree to the survival of the displaced, and a language in public with the Lebanese citizen, in which they claim that they are eager to return the displaced to their country.”

And he added, “In the facts, some of our senior officials are ready to sell the country so as not to lose the visa, and some of them fear that they will be subjected to sanctions, and some of the third protect their interests and money abroad, and some of them, the fourth, go along with the file of the displaced to reach a position in Lebanon, and some of the fifth were arrested a year ago.” 2011 to bring them into Lebanon and get paid today to keep them in it, and some of them, the sixth, founded associations funded from abroad and benefited from millions of dollars to care for the displaced.”

And he concluded, “In conclusion, the new displacement is at the gates, and Lebanon will be on the brink of an explosion of social living, so what are the decisions of our state to confront this situation?! Nothing.”
