War-torn Syrian President Bashar al-Assad took the solemn oath on Saturday and took office for the fourth time.
More than 600 guests attended the inauguration event in the capital, Damascus.
In his address, Assad announced that his re-election confirmed the support of the population for the state. He also called for the return of millions of compatriots who fled the country after the start of the war in 2011.
Assad won 95% of the vote in the May presidential election, in which he had no significant opponents.
Western countries did not recognize the election, stating that it was neither free nor fair.
The Assad regime has regained control of most of Syria, but some areas are under the control of Turkish-backed rebel, Kurdish and jihadist groups.
