Syria: Two members of Hezbollah were killed by an Israeli strike – 2024-02-27 03:16:34

An Israeli missile targeted a truck in Syria today, killing two members of the Iranian-backed Lebanese group Hezbollah, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which tracks violence in Syria, added that the strike occurred near the Syrian-Lebanese border.

The Israeli attack was the 16th in Syria this year, according to the Britain-based Observatory.

There was no comment from the Israeli military.

Later today, Hezbollah announced that two of its fighters had been killed without specifying where or when.

In the past Israel has bombed targets in Syria with the aim of hitting Iranian forces based there.

Israel seeks to prevent Iran and its allied militias from expanding their military influence in Syria. Israeli attacks have increased since the war in Gaza began in October.

Clashes between Hezbollah and Israeli forces on the border between Israel and Lebanon have also increased since the start of the war, with casualties on both sides.
