Syria: The international reactions to the fall of Assad –

“The end of Assad represents for millions of people in Syria a first, big relief,” said the head of German diplomacy, warning against leaving the country in the hands of “other radicals.” France also welcomed “the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime and called on Syrians to show ‘unity’ and ‘reject all forms of extremism’.” The Ministry of Foreign Affairs in its statement called for a “peaceful political transition” and for the protection of all the country’s citizens and minorities.

Chancellor Olaf Solz describes the fall of the Assad regime in Syria as “good news”, but stresses that the important thing now is to restore law and order in the country and is in favor of a solution based on the resolution 2254 of the United Nations Security Council .

The head of European diplomacy welcomed today, characterizing it as a “positive” development, the fall of Bashar al-Assad, noting that it demonstrates the weakness of his Russian and Iranian backers.

“The end of the Assad dictatorship is a positive development, long overdue. It also shows the weakness of Assad’s supporters, Russia and Iran,” Kaya Kalas said in a post on Platform X.

The EU’s priority will be to “ensure security” in the region, he added. For this purpose, it will cooperate “with all its partners” in Syria and, in general, in the region.

“The process of rebuilding Syria will be long and complex, and all sides should be ready to engage constructively,” he stressed.

With a post in Arabic, the French president commented on the fall of the Assad regime in Syria: “The barbaric state has finally fallen. I express my appreciation to the Syrian people for their courage and patience. In this moment of uncertainty, I wish him peace, freedom and unity. France remains committed to security and stability throughout the Middle East.”

THE prime minister Israel’s Benjamin Netanyahu hailed the ouster of Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, calling it a “historic day,” which he attributed to his military’s blows to Damascus backers Iran and Hezbollah in Lebanon.

Visiting an area near the border with Syria, Netanyahu said he has ordered the Israeli army to seize territory in the buffer zone to ensure Israel’s security. “We will not allow any hostile force to settle on our borders,” he stressed.

Defense Minister Israel Katz said the decision to deploy military forces in the UN-controlled buffer zone was taken to protect Israeli communities in the Golan Heights.

Syria’s fate is the sole responsibility of the Syrian people and should be decided without foreign imposition or destructive intervention, its foreign ministry said. Iranafter Tehran’s ally Bashar al-Assad was overthrown by rebels.

Iran respects the unity and national sovereignty of Syria, the ministry assured. Tehran will continue its talks with all sides, especially in the region, and closely monitor developments, but warned that its stance could change. “It will adopt appropriate approaches and positions” depending on developments, the ministry said.

However, Iran assured that it will help in every way for the security and stability of Syria and that the friendly relations between the two peoples will continue. He also called for an end to armed conflicts and the start of a “national dialogue”, stressing that he supports international mechanisms and in particular UN Security Council Resolution 2254.

Turkey’s Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan said today that Syria’s new government should be inclusive because the Syrian people will be the ones to determine their future after the rebels ousted Bashar al-Assad.

“The Assad regime has collapsed and (power) in the country has changed hands,” Fidan told the Doha Forum, which is being held in Qatar. “Of course, this didn’t happen overnight. It’s been 13 years now that the country is in the eye of the cyclone,” he added.

Fidan stressed that the Syrian people are unable to rebuild the country alone and that international and regional powers must act wisely and safeguard Syria’s territorial integrity. He also warned that “terrorist organizations” should not be allowed to take advantage of the situation.
