At least 18 people were killed in successive Israeli airstrikes overnight on military sites in central Syria, according to Syrian authorities, while the non-governmental Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported a higher death toll.
“The number of witnesses to the Israeli aggression is 18 dead” and 37 wounded, according to the Syrian Minister of Health, Mohammad al-Gambah, who visited the area of Masyaf, where these attacks took place.
The Observatory, which is based in Britain but has many sources inside Syria, spoke of 26 dead. Its director, Rami Abdel Rahman, underlined that this was “one of the most violent raids” ever launched by the Israeli Air Force in Syria.
The Israeli military, when asked about the matter, replied that it “does not comment on information from foreign media.”
According to Rahman, the strikes targeted “the Masyaf scientific research center” where Iranian experts work and “develop weapons, mainly precision missiles and unmanned aerial vehicles.”
The Observatory also reported that the victims were “five civilians, four Syrian military personnel, 14 Syrians working for pro-Iranian organizations and three who have not been identified.” “Buildings and military centers” were destroyed by the bombing.
