Up to 35 Islamic State (IS) jihadists were killed Monday in US strikes in Syria, the Pentagon announced today.
“Strikes against several Islamic State positions in the Syrian desert targeted several senior leaders,” the US military’s Middle East Command (CENTCOM) announced. There was no indication that civilians were killed in the raids, he added.

What does the US military think about IS’s capabilities?
These “airstrikes will disrupt IS’s ability to plan, organize and carry out attacks against civilians as well as against US allies and partners throughout the region and beyond,” the US military said.
The US has deployed around 900 troops to Syria as part of an international coalition against Islamic State and has been carrying out regular strikes in the war-torn country since 2011.
IS seized control of parts of Syria and Iraq in 2014, declaring itself a “caliphate” and launching a reign of terror before being crushed in 2019 by the international coalition.
