BOSTON, Mass. – The Syracuse University volleyball team lost at Boston College on Wednesday night in straight sets (25-18, 25-14, 25-18). Freshman Veronica Sierzant paced the Orange offense with eight kills and 10 assists. ‘Cuse will be back in action on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Raleigh, N.C. against NC State.
The Orange kept pace with the Eagles in the first set, taking an early lead at 10-8. After leading 14-13, Boston College went on a 7-1 run to take a five-point lead, 20-15, eventually winning the frame, 25-18. The Eagles carried the momentum into the second set. A late 5-2 run from ‘Cuse was not enough as Boston College would win set two, 25-14.
The third frame saw fight from the Orange early on, as they strung together a 6-1 scoring run with kills from freshman Greta Schlichter and junior Laila Smith, taking an 8-4 lead. Succeeding some back-and forth play, the Eagles closed out the set and match with a 7-1 scoring run, winning set three 25-18.
Of Note:
Freshman Veronica Sierzant was the top contributor for the Orange, hitting eight kills, 10 assists, two block assists and one service ace.
Redshirt sophomore Raina Hughes had six kills on 14 attacks, hitting .214 percent.
Junior Laila Smith helped on both sides, accruing four kills on 10 attacks and two block assists.
Freshman Greta Schlichter had 10 digs, one block assist and four kills.
