Syracuse Native Nathan Knight Signs Two-Way Deal with Boston Celtics after Being Waived by New York Knicks

Syracuse, N.Y. ― Just three days after he was waived by the New York Knicks, Syracuse native Nathan Knight has agreed to a two-way deal with the Boston Celtics.

The Celtics announced the signing on the team’s social media platforms.

Knight, 26, has spent three seasons in the NBA with the Atlanta Hawks and the Minnesota Timberwolves. He appeared in 38 regular season games for the Timberwolves last season, averaging 3.7 points and 1.5 rebounds. He shot 56.8% from the field and 36.4% from the three-point range.

Knight had been in the Knicks’ training camp until being waived on Thursday. Now, the 6-foot-9 forward has a chance to boost Boston’s frontcourt depth.

Ironically, Boston opens its regular season against the Knicks on Wednesday, Oct. 25.

In another twist, Knight posted his NBA career-highs in minutes, points, rebounds, and assists in a game against the Celtics in December 2021, when he dropped 20 points and 11 rebounds in 29 minutes.

Boston had an open spot for another two-way player after the team waived Jay Scrubb on Sunday. Knight becomes the Celtics’ third player on a two-way deal along with Neemias Queta and JD Davison.

Knight attended Syracuse’s Nottingham High School before going to Kimbal Union Academy in Meriden, N.H. He then had a stellar career at William & Mary. He was the Colonial Athletic Association’s Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year in 2020.
