The resolution ensuring the entire financial coverage of 372 million euros for the construction of the new hospital in Syracuse has been approved by the regional council. Another 24 million euros are assigned which are added to the 300 million already tied up by the Region with funds pursuant to art. 20 law 67/88 and the 48 million insured by the ASP of Syracuse.
«Now the Superior Council of Public Works – says the president of the Sicilian Region, Renato Schifani – can proceed with the approval of the definitive project. The new hospital is strategic for the entire Syracuse area and my government has maintained its commitment to the community, intervening further to guarantee the additional sums due to the 70 percent increase in costs compared to what was originally expected. We want to equip the area with a modern and functional healthcare infrastructure to ensure adequate services.”
The regional deputies Riccardo Gennuso of Forza Italia and Giuseppe Carta of the Popolari and Autonomisti express their appreciation and thanks to the regional government and, in particular, to the president Renato Schifani for the approval in the Council of the financing for the new hospital in Syracuse.
“With this decision, the attention of the regional government towards the Syracuse area is confirmed, especially on a crucial and delicate issue such as that of the efficiency of the hospital network, fundamental for the quality of life of citizens”, declare the two parliamentarians.
According to Gennuso and Carta, “this choice represents a concrete and decisive response to the needs of an area that has long been awaiting such an important investment for the improvement of healthcare facilities. This is a significant achievement, the result of serious and constant work which demonstrates the culture and action of good governance and administrative efficiency of the centre-right led by Schifani”.
The two political exponents reject the criticisms of those who, “in an instrumental way, have fueled sterile controversies on the subject. The financing for the new hospital in Syracuse is a concrete demonstration of the regional government’s commitment and willingness to carry out projects of great value for the well-being of the community, overcoming useless divisions and political speculation”, they conclude.
