Synology Plus series hard drives have passed comprehensive compatibility and stress testing and can maintain stable operation even in multi-user and high-load work environments. Firmware can be updated directly through DSM, without removing the hard drive to receive the latest patches. In addition, the product provides three-year maintenance service, giving users more peace of mind.

DSM 7.2: Secure data sharing and protection solution for small offices

The software functions of Synology NAS have always been its core selling point to attract users, and the latest DSM 7.2 version has been officially launched. DSM 7.2 introduces many innovative features to help IT practitioners address diverse data management challenges. These features include tamper-resistant storage and backup systems, complete encryption of storage spaces, performance improvements, tighter access controls, and enhanced storage planning tools.

▲Users can easily connect work or other important folders in their laptops to the NAS through File Station for centralized data backup. This process is as fast as using an everyday external hard drive. It not only maintains the user’s original usage habits, but also provides the best protection for data.

▲No matter where they are, users can access the NAS through Synology Drive’s web interface. Just log in to the NAS in a browser and upload or download files immediately. Since it is operated through a browser, it can be easily used by users regardless of whether they are using Mac or Windows systems.

▲In order to enhance data security, users can customize personal or team folders when backing up data. In addition, users can also independently control the sharing permissions of all files, including whether to allow sharing to others, whether to grant editing permissions when sharing, and set the expiration date of sharing, thereby ensuring that the security of files is not easily leaked.

  • Ultimate File Security: WriteOnce

When it comes to folder security, every user has personal and company files that cannot be lost or modified frequently. For individual users, this may include identity documents, commemorative photos, etc. These are files that will not be edited in the future. In Synology’s latest DSM version, a feature called WriteOnce has been introduced, which allows files to be written once and cannot be modified again, providing a powerful protection mechanism for these important files.

Users can choose whether to enable the WriteOnce function when setting up the folder, which provides two options: enterprise mode and regulatory mode. The main difference between the two modes is that in enterprise mode even system administrators cannot overwrite files. This means that once files are stored in a WriteOnce folder, they become permanently read-only and cannot be changed or deleted. Even if your computer is hacked, your files remain safe.

In the configuration of the WriteOnce function, users can customize the editing period before the data is locked. For example, if it is set to 2 days, the files newly copied into the folder can be deleted within the first two days, and will automatically enter the locked state after two days. Users can also set an unlocking time, before which files cannot be deleted. For example, it can be set to automatically unlock after 3 years, which is quite suitable for the use of company folders. However, it should be noted that if it is set to never be unlocked, the files in the folder will not be deleted and will occupy storage space permanently, so you must consider it carefully when setting it.

Immutable snapshots improve system security levels

What users were most worried about in the past was the threat of ransomware. Especially as more and more employees use NAS, security risks increase accordingly. To address this issue, Synology has developed new security measures using the WriteOnce feature. With the Snapshot Replication suite, users can create snapshot backups of shared folders and LUNs (logical unit numbers) in as little as five minutes.

These snapshots are unchangeable and have a maximum locking period of 30 days. Users do not have to worry about storage space issues caused by long-term locking. These snapshots can be stored in local or off-site backups. In the unfortunate event of a ransomware attack, users can quickly restore all data, greatly reducing potential losses.

Synology Office enables seamless team collaboration

To put team collaboration first, Synology Office applications provide a centralized solution on Synology NAS. It allows users to access and edit documents at any time through any network-connected device, including mobile phones, even during vacations, thereby seamlessly maintaining team work continuity and productivity.

For data security, the 3-2-1 backup principle is often mentioned, that is, having at least three copies of the data, two different storage forms, and an off-site backup. For personal data, it can be difficult to achieve comprehensive backup. However, with Synology NAS and Synology Active Backup for Business, users can easily back up data on their personal computers to NAS devices. Friends who are interested in learning more can view the official instructional videos.

Furthermore, through Synology’s Hyper Backup function, users can back up data on the NAS to cloud storage, another NAS device, or an external storage device such as USB. In this way, 3-2-1 backup protection can be achieved for corporate data, greatly improving data security.

Conclusion: A compact and efficient server suitable for data backup and management at home and small businesses.

DS923+ uses 4 bays plus dual M.2 SSD slots, coupled with AMD Ryzen R1600 high-performance processor, which is enough to provide sufficient server performance for homes and small offices.
